물두멍
물두멍은 동이를 이용해 길어온 물을 담아두는 물 항아리이다. 물 속의 불순물을 가라앉혀서 마실 수 있게 한 조상들의 지혜를 보여준다.
과거 농촌에서는 벼슬집이나 일부 부유한 집을 제외하면 대부분 한 마을에 한두 개 정도의 공동 우물을 이용해 식수를 길러 쓰는 것이 일반적이었다.
따라서 물두멍은 부엌살림에서 매우 중요한 용기였다.
Mul-dumeong (Water Settling Jar)
A mul-dumeong is a water jar used to store water drawn with a bucket (dong-i). It reflects the wisdom of ancestors who allowed impurities in water to settle before drinking.
In traditional Korean villages, except for officials’ households or a few wealthy families, most people relied on one or two communal wells per village for their daily water supply
As such, the mul-dumeong was an essential household container, playing a central role in kitchen life.
